US!
We got a digital camera for Christmas (hooray!)...so I am learning how to "properly" use it. Bear with me, there may be quite a few random photos, photos of us, photos of nothing, etc. We are planning a trip to the aquarium in a couple of weeks, so we will have some real pictures of something exciting!

Something New
I thought that I would try something new this year. We have made a list of new recipes that we would like to try this year. This is an idea that we get a lot, but this year I’m actually going to do it. I don’t yet know how many each month I’ll get it done, but with the list we’ve got going it could be lots. However, I don’t want to drop the ball on this “goal” so I’ll just try doing at least one per month. And every now and then, if we really like it, I will share it on our blog. Like this one, It’s not really new, but I thought that I would start somewhere.(Some of you may have had it; I know I’ve made it on some of my trips to WA. and when we have had guests.)
Italian Crock-pot Chicken (We got this one while we were living in Nampa, ID.)
4 Boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into bit size pieces1 packet Italian seasonings (7oz. Good Seasons)1 cube melted butter
Cook on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 5-7 hours. Last ½ hour -1 hour add:
1 pkg. Softened cream cheese1 Family size cream of chicken soupAdd aprox. ½ cup milk (more or less) for gravy like consistency. (You may not need to add any)
Serve over rice.
Like all crock-pot recipes, this one is so easy and it feeds a lot!

Bath time!
You might think that the Eskie is a big dog...even kind of fluffy. Yes! This is a picture that we have of someone giving an Eskie a bath. so really you can see that the Eskie is fluffy. Without all that fluff, it would be a much slimmer dog!

Fantasy Baseball!
Woot! It's almost time for Fantasy Baseball.
Baseball Manager is coming up, and this year I managed to secure a team in the Pinetar Organization.
My teams this year will be:
Gauchos - El Guapo - Double Play AL Frank Howard League - 2004-currentHungry Hippos - Gosh - AL Ultimate Highlander League - 1998-currentBread Loaves - Dough - Pinetar 3rd Tier AL League - 2005
I also will have a AL Keeper League team, but this will be my last year in the league, because there are a couple of robos (teams that are not kept up by the manager), and the league is very inactive on the Diamond Club (The BBM bulletin board/forum).
However, the first 3 teams will be a fun challenge for the year, and hopefully I will have good news to report throughout the season.

The Phantom of the Opera is there...Inside the Theatre!
We went and saw Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera movie today.
I thought it did very well in taking the musical and putting it onto the movie screen. I read a number of reviews that weren't very good, but it seemed they really didn't like the musical either, therefore of course they weren't going to like the movie.
I would highly recommed this movie, If you liked the musical, you will like the movie. If you didn't like the musical, then you probably won't like the movie either.

2 Miles
Back when I was a young buck of 21 years old. I was in the Army ROTC at BYU. We would run 2 miles, and I was putting up times of just under 12 minutes for 2 miles.
Well, I started running 2 miles a day on Thursday, and posted a tremendous 22:14.
On Friday I managed to cut the time to 20:40.
Yes, it's true, I am way out of shape...however, my goal is to get back to 2 miles in 12 minutes.

Newborn Eskies
These are newborn Eskies, but they are from someone elses web site, so they will not be ours to choose from. I think they look like little polar bears!

Puppy update
After doing a few e-mails back and forth between the breeder and myself I have some updates. The puppies are about two weeks old. There were three girls, and two boys. Yes, I know that's only five, the breeder was expecting seven from the x-rays and ultrasound so either two of the puppies didn't make it, or two of the puppies are already spoken for. We should be getting pictures in two or three weeks, “Right now they are just blind little white rats but by four weeks they will start to do more” according to the breeder, and she will be taking pictures when they start to do more! We are still excited and already preparing for the arrival of our puppy! We already have a bed and some toys for it, along with a leash and other items that were given to us for Christmas, and we are looking into all of the necessary training that the new puppy will need.

Libraries & Salinas
Some of you may have heard that Salinas is going to close it's public libraries soon. And this from the hometown of John Steinbeck!
A couple of comments about that, just in case you haven't heard the real story.
1. Have any of you actually read John Steinbeck? I mean, honestly, what does anyone see in his writing?
2. I voted to close the libraries. Last time I checked, libraries didn't teach kids how to read, or improve literacy, unless you're playing Sim City on the computer.
3. Here's how I think the whole issue went down.
City Councilman #1: Boy, we sure have put our budget in the tank by increasing our salaries and not saving budget surpluses for a rainy day. Not to mention plethora of additional methods of wasting money we have come close to perfecting. Now we can't pay for everything that we want to do!
City Councilman #2: We need to raise taxes to pay for everything. We can't actually be expected to cut our budget or try and be efficient....I mean, that would be like the private sector!
City Councilman #3: No! Anything but that! But what can we do?
City Councilman #4: I've got a great idea! Let's tell people that we will have to close the libraries unless they approve a tax increase! Then we throw up images of John Steinbeck and illiterate children. There's no way they'll vote to keep books out of the hands of kids! That way, we won't actually have to cut any of our pet projects...or our salaries, or the myriad of useless positions in our city government.
So that's what probably happened, except they didn't count on the fact that people don't really like to increase their own taxes for something that they don't see as a benefit.
4. I've been to 2 of the 3 libraries in Salinas, and frankly, I was unimpressed, and if they were really spending the kind of money that the increase called for, I'm glad they are shutting down.
5. And the literacy thing. Last I checked, schools taught kids how to read, not libraries. In reality parents should teach kids how to read, but that's a whole new ballgame.
6. Besides, it's not like barnes & Noble, Waldenbooks or B. Dalton aren't accessible either. Maybe buy your kid fewer video games and more books, and you really won't be spending any more money than you already do.

Life in Salinas
Well, we went to the mall today around 8:00 pm, and the whole south part of the mall was closed because of a shooting that took place around 7:00 PM. This was unfortunate, because the store I needed to go to, Champs, was in the South part of the mall. And that was the whole reason for going to the mall in the first place. However, we were able to get Jeannie some slippers, so all is not lost.
Don't worry, no one was killed at the mall. The two shooting deaths that happened today took place on John St in an unrelated incident, not far from the hotel we stayed at when we first moved to Salinas. The mall shooting resulted in 3 injuries, and was gang related. Then again, gang related is pretty standard for shootings in Salinas.

Misc. Pictures
This first photo, is a ad for the new construction infront of our apartments. We were driving home one day and it was there...kind of disturbed us, now we just laugh. In the second picture, we were driving home from our christmas weekend, and in traffic...wait, why did the tumbleweed cross the freeway?... That was the largest tumbleweed that we had ever seen so we took a picture. And the third picture is my Uncle Woody with the fried turkey!
