Draft Selection Order in the Stone's Throw League

I have been thinking about how we currently determine draft selection order for the following year, and I've decided that the current system, while designed to encourage teams to play out the year, ends up hurting bad teams, even if they try.
Here is the current system:
1st Pick: 9th Place Team
2nd Pick: 10th Place Team
3rd Pick: 5th Place (Playoff) Team
4th Pick: 6th Place (Playoff) Team
5th Pick: 7th Place (Playoff) Team
6th Pick: 8th Place (Playoff) team
7th Pick: Winner of 3rd Place Game
8th Pick: Loser of 3rd Place Game
9th Pick: Loser of Super Bowl
10th Pick: League Champion

If I am the 8th place team going into the playoffs, chances are, I will end up in 8th place after the playoffs, and I end up picking my draft spot after a team that (theoretically just missed the playoffs). This doesn't reward them for trying, it could encourage them to tank the last week or two in order to stay out of the playoffs and get a better pick.

Here is my proposed new system:
9th Place and 10 Place in the regular season each have a shot at the top selection:
9th Place has a 60% chance, while 10th Place has a 40% chance at the top pick.
5th Place through 8th Place in the regular season wil vie for the 3rd through 6th picks using the following:
5th Place Regular Season earns 5% chance
6th Place Regular Season earns 10% chance
7th Place Regular Season earns 15% chance
8th Place Regular Season earns 20% chance
5th Place Playoff team earns 20% chance
6th Place Playoff team earns 15% chance
7th Place Playoff team earns 10% chance
8th Place Playoff team earns 5% chance

Add your total from the regular season and playoff, and that is your chance of being selected for the next pick. So if I am 8th place in the regular season, and 7th place in the playoffs, I have a 30% chance at getting the 3rd pick.

The teams in the top bracket will continue to select based on the current system.

BBM Update

Well, I went one for three this morning.
The Bread Loaves won today, while the Gauchos and Hungry Hippos lost.
Current Records:
Bread Loaves (5-3), 4th Place
Hungry Hippos (3-5), 8th Place
Gauchos (3-5), 7th Place
Both my losses today were by 1 run, argh!
